Ready to embark on a journey together? Let’s review the process:
In the beginning, there’s exposition.
- Share your thoughts, ideas, and inspirations. Any map examples you absolutely love?
- Doodle an initial sketch, a basic drawing from you, however you can manage. Just something visual so I can get the lay of the land and what things are where in relation to the story. If you already have something made from when you were writing, send me that!
- Give me a typed list of location names in addition to the labels on the doodles, so I get the spelling right. Brief, one-sentence-or-less descriptions of locations. Anything that will help me visually represent the place. If a forest is coniferous or deciduous (pine or leafy). If a desert is sandy dunes or dry, cracked earth. Population and class of cities, if they’re big and rich or poor shanty towns.
- Any symbols, objects, animals important to the story. Anything of meaning that could be used to decorate the frame, or convey the tone. Any world-building culture, lore, magic system, etc.
- The more you give me, the more I have to work with and make something truly unique to your book. I don’t typically read full manuscripts, but otherwise, I’ll take what you got!
Next, we have rising action.
Next, we have rising action.
- I work on a sketch! (2 weeks)
- We review the sketch and make any corrections. Maybe a mountain needs to move to over here, or the name of this city needs to change. It’s an opportunity to give me any and all feedback and revise. (1 week)
The conflict builds to a climax.

- Then I work on a final draft with details and shading. (2 weeks)
- We review the final draft and make any corrections necessary. Your satisfaction is my utmost concern.
And we end with a resolution.

- You receive the final-final draft, and I turn over deliverables. You’ll get the working Photoshop file, a high-res, print-ready file, a low-res file for posting online, and any other file type or size you need. The artwork is yours to do with as you please!
